VINTAGE SOLINGEN GERMANY BLADE PAIRED WITH GAUCHO CUSTOM HAND-CRAFTED AGED ANTLER HANDLE

Up for sale is a custom vintage knife with a backstory and proven provenance of over 25 years from a private collection. This piece features a vintage German carbon steel Boker blade that a South American craftsman or gaucho custom-fitted with a beautiful piece of aged antler.

GERMAN CARBON STEEL BLADE The blade features the classic Boker markings: HEINR. BOKER & CO. / SOLINGEN-ALEMANIA / ARBOLITO. It displays the stylized tree logo stamp. This blade was forged in Solingen, Germany, as part of Boker's collectible vintage archive revivals that began in the mid-1970s to honor their pre-war export heritage. A rounded steel guard is built right into the single piece of steel. The blade length is 6 inches, and the total knife length is 10 inches. The carbon steel has a stunning, dark historic patina. It is very sharp and the fitment to the handle is completely rock solid with zero wiggle.

THE CUSTOM ANTLER HANDLE As seen in the close-up photos, the handle is made from a truly incredible piece of aged antler. It features a natural curved sweep, deep chocolate-black grooves, and a rugged, weathered cream crown or rosetta butt end. This piece of horn shows great age with deep natural coloration. The craftsman meticulously notched the front of the dense horn to seamlessly fit the blade's flat metal base. The hidden tang is securely anchored into the natural horn cavity using a traditional black charcoal pitch resin known as lacre. This traditional resin has naturally weathered and receded slightly on one side over its long life, proving its authentic hand-crafted assembly. The handle remains completely solid.

THE CUSTOM BEADED SHEATH This knife is paired with a hand-stitched thick brown leather sheath featuring beautiful turquoise and brown Native American or frontier style beadwork. The sheath was hand-crafted around the year 2000 by a mountain man re-enactor. The sheath throat flares slightly wider than the sleek blade style because it was custom-paired with the knife later in its history.

I am a casual collector of beautiful things but not a knife expert—I originally bought this piece 25 years ago simply because I fell in love with the beadwork on the sheath and the antique look of the antler handle and wanted it for western decor. The Seller was an old man who actually cried when I bought it as he told me its tale and how he didn’t want to sell it but had to. Naive me had no idea what could be so important about a brand knife blade with an cool looking antler handle and I was already at the register with it and some other things so he didn’t need to put on an act or tell me a story. Yet his emotion left an impression on me and I never forgot it. He said “it came up from the Pampas” and “that’s a top knife blade don’t ever give it away”, and “a Vaquero owned and made that by hand, that’s a South American cowboy”. Well alrighty then! He definitely wanted this gal to know it wasn’t just a pretty gee gaw. He wanted me to respect the knife for what it was since I obviously didn’t know. He said he made the sheath. Since then it has only been used as decor or stored in a closet box for the last 25 years. It’s still very sharp! I accidentally sliced my finger handling it to photograph.
