DESCRIPTION:
For sale is an exceptional, historically significantWW1 Real Photo Postcard (RPPC)depicting a United States Army doughboy from the Coast Artillery Corps (CAC). This antique studio portrait was found in the Puget Sound region (Puyallup, Washington) and carries excellent localized military provenance.Uniform & Insignia Highlights:
- Branch Collar Disk:Clearly shows the Artillery crossed cannons with the numeral "24" below, designating the 24th Company, Coast Defenses of Puget Sound (stationed at Fort Worden, Washington). The soldier is wearing his full uniform, though the standard opposing right-side metal U.S. insignia disk is obscured due to the lighting of the vintage photograph.
- Dual Arm Patches:Features matching circular shoulder sleeve insignia worn on both arms, each containing the distinctive upright artillery shell authorized for Coast Artillery Corps components.
- Headgear:M1911 Campaign Hat with the traditional "Montana peak" crease and artillery branch cord.
- Uniform:Classic M1917 high-collar wool service coat, riding breeches, and wrapped canvas puttees.
Historical Significance:
The reverse of this card features an authentic French "Carte Postale" divided-back imprint. This confirms that this local Washington state soldier deployed overseas to France with the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF)—likely absorbed into a heavy or railway artillery regiment like the 63rd or 69th Artillery, CAC—and had this souvenir portrait taken at a local European studio before returning home to the Pacific Northwest.Condition:
