Vintage Imperial Japanese Navy-style dirk with a brown leather-covered wooden scabbard.
The scabbard retains its decorative cherry blossom fittings and two suspension rings. The metal fittings are believed to be brass. The scabbard locking mechanism functions properly.
The grip is made of molded resin designed to imitate rayskin and is wrapped with a single strand of wire.
The blade appears to be forged and has been cut off at approximately 5.5 inches from the guard. The tang construction suggests that an older Japanese sword blade may have been adapted for this dirk; however, this has not been authenticated. The blade and tang are unsigned.
One seppa is stamped “42,” and the other is stamped “8.” No markings were found on the guard.
