“Pure Silver”The original wooden box also bears a stamp reading “Tokyo Ginza, Made by Tamaya.”The important inscription here is “Naval Examination Award.” The Imperial Japanese Navy depended heavily on specialized technical knowledge and practical proficiency. Sailors and personnel were trained and evaluated in fields such as gunnery, torpedo operation, signaling and communications, engineering, and navigation.This goblet was therefore not simply a souvenir.
