Willys-Overland Motors Inc.- Toledo, Ohio
Employee Photo ID BadgeNo. 668988 (Green)
Made by Whitehead Hoag Newark, NJ
Check out the other two Willys-Overland Motors Employee Badges I have listed on .
DESCRIPTION: This is an authentic World War II or immediate post-war era Employee Photo ID Badge.Prior to WWII, factory badges were usually simple stamped metal discs with just a number. Everything changed during the war when Willys-Overland Motors took on massive, top-secret government contracts to build the iconic military Jeep. To prevent espionage, sabotage, and unauthorized entry, factories introduced high-security identification tokens that combined three critical features:
- A tamper-proof photo of the employee's face.
- A specific stamped employee serial number (visible in the top window).
- A distinct color-coded background insert under the serial number.
In many automotive defense plants, green was explicitly assigned to non-manufacturing staff. This included accounting, purchasing, payroll, and clerical staff who worked in the administration buildings.
SIZE: 2-1/4" in length.
CONDITION: Some surface rust. Plastic has distorted some. Check out the above photos.
NOTE:Comes from a smoke and pet free home. I combine shipping whenever possible. Please contact me to confirm first.
