Exceptional Antique Scandinavian Presentation Drinking Horn – Dated 1894
A striking late-19th-century ceremonial/presentation drinking horn featuring a large natural horn mounted on an elaborately decorated metal pedestal.
The central applied cartouche is beautifully engraved:
“Minne af d. 9 April 1894”
Approximately translated from Swedish as:
“In Memory of April 9, 1894.”
The piece features extensive period metalwork, including an ornate raised floral and scroll-decorated pedestal, decorative support, pierced upper collar and an elaborate applied presentation plaque.
The natural horn displays beautiful variations in color from warm honey tones to deep brown/black. The combination of the dramatic sweeping horn and highly decorated base makes this an especially impressive display piece.
