The Herend Hungary Handpainted Birds, Butterflies & Insect’s 14” Sandwich Tray is a charming and vintage serving tray made of porcelain. This Herend #436 Tray is “blooming gorgeous” - hand painted birds, butterflies & insects. Heavy gold trim around outside edge and gold outlines the handle cut outs. Also, heavy “tear drop” like gold decorations on tray next to both sides of each handle. Measures 14” wide by 6” deep by 3/4” high. Underside with Herend hallmark and “436 R0”. Also, has gummed price label of retailer, indicating a price of L92.50.
Herend is right up there with Sevres and Limoges, insofar as Europe’s highest rated porcelain manufactories. I believe that their porcelain is better than what is produced by the Bavarian porcelain or England/Japan bone china manufactories. There is no universal agreement as to who is the best china manufactory in Europe, however, it is acknowledged that Herend produces highest quality porcelain.
What is not arguable is that Herend is the World’s leader in producing hand painted porcelain. Yes, other’s, like Sevres, Limoges and Hutschenreuther are still doing hand painting but only on their top lines, made for Royalty or Government Official’s, etc. Herend hand paints every piece they make- how they compete price-wise is beyond me, but, I guess they made a conscious decision to compete based on quality.
CONDITION: pristine never used condition with no scratches, scuffs or use marks to be found. Appears as new.
PRICING INFORMATION: searched ’s history of recent “buy it now/best offer” sales of our Herend 14” bird sandwich tray without and defects and found three matches(prices include shipping): on August 8, 2026, for $349.94(stated to be excellent - not pristine like new); and, on July 30, 2026, for $232(said to be used, not pristine like new).
Also, we note that there are two of these trays currently offered for sale on for(prices include shipping): $205.18(not Ike new - just good used); $300.97(not like new - just stated to be beautiful.
