c. 1885 Delaware Lackawanna Western Railroad Scranton Photo View Booklet For Sale

A Victorian-era souvenir photo-view booklet with the gilt-stamped title "Photo Views on Del, Lack & West R.R." on embossed green cloth boards, published by Rand, McNally & Co. of Chicago. The booklet opens in accordion (leporello) fold to reveal a continuous strip of sepia-toned photo-lithograph views along the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad's route through Pennsylvania and central New York. Captioned views include Lafayette College at Easton, Pennsylvania; Caldeno Falls; Wyoming Monument; Delaware Water Gap; Rebecca's Bath; Charming Falls, Pike County, Pennsylvania; Roaring Brook Tunnel; Nay-Aug Falls, Scranton Gorge; Delaware Water Gap and Kittatiny Mountain; Grand Falls of Lucifer, Enfield Glen; Tower Rock, Cayuga Lake; and a view on the railroad at Water Gap. No date is printed in the booklet; the format, publisher, and printing style are consistent with other Rand McNally accordion-fold souvenir view booklets produced in the 1880s, so a circa 1885 date is offered as an estimate. In-hand review is recommended for collectors wanting a firmer date.
