Original c.1935–1939 vintage color postcard featuring the Cabin Class—equivalent to first class—indoor swimming pool aboard the French Line ocean liner SS Normandie.Postcard depicting Normandie’s interiors are sought after for their connection to one of the most significant ocean liners of the twentieth century. She captured the Blue Riband on her maiden voyage and became internationally known for her speed, advanced engineering and lavish Art Deco interiors.A contemporary 1937 French Line publication associates architects Pierre Patout and Henri Pacon with the swimming pool’s design. This period postcard preserves a detailed interior view from Normandie’s brief passenger career and documents the liner’s distinctive design legacy.After the United States entered World War II, Normandie was seized in New York and renamed USS Lafayette for conversion into a troop transport.
