The M24 Chaffee was the standard light tank used by U.S. Constabulary units performing occupation duties in Germany. U.S. Army historical records note that Constabulary regiments maintained light tank troops equipped with M24s.
A large field or unit flag dominates the foreground while numerous soldiers gather around the tank and move across the field. A motorcycle or light military vehicle is partially visible in the foreground.
The reverse is handwritten:
“P.F.C. Donald P. Gillmore”
“2nd Bn. Med.”
This photograph comes from the same cohesive archive as other images showing U.S. Constabulary and 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment personnel and vehicles in Germany. Companion photographs from the group show the distinctive Constabulary “Circle C” insignia, and one jeep is directly marked “6AC.”
The 6th Constabulary Regiment was reorganized as the 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment on December 20, 1948 and remained within the U.S. Constabulary until its transfer to Seventh Army in November 1950. This archive context, together with the M24 Chaffee, supports an approximate 1949–1950 date for the photograph.
