View Larger Image   North Brothers YANKEE No. 1455 2 Speed Breast Drill   Description: This is a clean, vintage 2 speed hand crank breast drill marked "YANKEE NO. 1455 NORTH BROS. MFG. CO. PHILA PA. U.S.A.". It measures about 16.5" long overall, with a 3 jaw drill chuck, with a capacity of up to 1/2" diameter straight shank drills, with spring loaded retract jaws, very heavy duty with a place to use a wrench to tighten or loosen standard shank drills in the chuck. This one has about 70% of the black paint intact. The handles are both in very good condition, no cracks, good ferrules in place, both handles have some small flaws in the finish, but about 80% of the original finish is intact. The wear is minor on the handles, some minor scratches and dings, solid with good metal threads or center shafts. This type has the removable handles, and adjustable position breast plate. This is a two speed drill, controlled via the switch type selector, in good working order. The selector allow for slow, lock, and fast selections. All the gears are in good+ condition, engage nicely, turn smoothly. The chuck has been cleaned and oiled and is in great shape overall, and is also marked "YANKEE". The outside sleeve of the chuck has a edge ding, as noted in the pictures. Overall a very nice looking heavy duty hand drill, with nice features, complete with all the original hardware. Also features adjustable shaft ball bearings just behind the chuck. A very well made, nice looking tool, by a well known maker!
