View Larger Image   Millers Falls Spiral Ratchet Screwdriver No. 41 Rare!   Description: This is a very rare spiral ratchet screwdriver marked "MILLERS FALLS MILLERS FALLS MASS. U.S.A. NO. 41 PAT. MAR.12.1899" on the rotating selector sleeve. Like the Yankee brand screwdrivers, it has the forward, reverse, and lock options, selected by rotating the sleeve to the desire position, with lock in the middle. The lock and reverse modes work great, and the selector will engage the forward, but there is a worn bronze shoe inside that is hanging up on the cross spirals on the main shaft, so in effect, the shoe will need to be replaced in order to make it work correctly. The part is not complex, but unless you have another screwdriver like this one, you will have to make a new part to fix it, or simply leave it as is, since this is a very rare tool, you most likely would want to use it anyway. Other than this issue, this screwdriver is in good working order, the chuck is a collet type chuck with a threaded sleeve, and a double ended slot bit that the one end of the bit fits into a slot in the chuck, thereby keeping it from turning under pressure while in use. The slot bit is in useable condition (on both ends) with some minor wear noted. The hardwood handle has a natural finish, some dings, and scratches, and one tight crack about 1 inch long noted near the main steel body, fits very tightly. The handle is very long, 6" wood only. The screwdriver is 17.5" long excluding the tip when fully extended, and 11.8" long in the closed position. This is the first we have seen of these, and the first No. 41 we have offered for sale. The price is based on the condition, as it is worth much more in perfect working order.
