View Larger Image   Stanley Smooth Plane No. 4 Type 18 1940s   Description: This is a very nice clean Stanley No. 4 smooth plane from the late 40's era or a type 18. This type has the hardwood handles that were painted black at the factory in these few years, The knob and handle are in nice condition, with some minor edge wear, very solid and clean, not cracked, with 85% of the original black paint on the tote, and the knob. This plane is in good++ condition overall with about 85% of the original black Japanning, and about 90% of the nickel plating on the cap cover intact. The bare metal surfaces are clean, the handles and castings are solid, no cracks, the bottom is smooth and flat with just a few small areas of minor pitting. The blade is marked "STANLEY MADE IN U.S.A.", the body is marked "BAILEY NO. 4 MADE IN U.S.A.". The cutter is about 95% intact, sharp and ready to use. This is a very nice vintage Stanley plane in very good, ready to use condition!
