View Larger Image   Stanley Jointer Plane No. 8 Type 5 Late 1800's   Description: This is a very good antique, but useable, large No. 8 jointer plane marked "STANLEY RULE & LEVEL" on the cutter, and on the lateral lever is marked "STANLEY" plus 3 patent dates, the last is "OCT.21.84" defining this plane as a type 6 from the 1880's era. It also has the "No. 8" cast raised letting on the bed in front of the knob, Overall the plane is in very good working condition, but has a few issues that effect price, not use. There is a small chip off the upper part of the rosewood handle/tote, sort of rounded off now, some etched lettering on both side walls from past owner's, and some minor pitting, staining or discoloration on the bare metal surfaces. No damage otherwise, no rust, no cracks, good solid handle and knob, both rosewood. About 40% of the original black Japanning is intact, The cutter is sharp, but rather short, about 1/4" left for re-sharpening down the road. The bare metal has a slightly darkened patina, smooth and nice with very little wear or scratches. All the adjustments work very well.
