View Larger Image   Stanley No 5 Jack Plane Smooth Type 17   Description: Offering this nice clean 14" long x 2" wide cutter, Stanley Bailey No 5 Jack Plane Type 17 with smooth bottom, dated 1942-45; blade is marked Stanley, made in USA with the rectangular logo. This plane was made during the end of the WWII period, could be a type 18, where some raw materials were not available, so in this case hardwood with a rosewood stain was used on the knob and handle. There is very little if any stain left on the hardwood in this case, but the knob and tote are both in very solid condition, there appears to be two repaired cracks in front of the lower mounting screw on the tote handle, repair is holding strong, otherwise both are in very nice condition, with minimal wear. The plane is in very good condition with some wear on the original black Japanning, but over 85% still intact; bear metal surfaces good+ condition, no cracks or chips; a few scratches on the bottom, clean, no rust. The 2 inch wide blade is very clean, sharp, ready to work, no cracks or chips; cutter is 90% intact and sharp. The cap cover has about 80% nickel plating intact, and about 50% of the orange paint intact, nice overall.
