View Larger Image   Millers Falls 2 Speed Breast Drill No. 12 w/Level   Description: This is a nice clean, 2 speed hand crank breast drill marked "MILLERS FALLS CO. MILLERS FALLS MASS. MADE IN U.S.A. NO.12", and is also marked on the chuck sleeve with 3 patent dates from "1907 to NOV.7.1910".. It measures about 17.5" long overall, with a two jaw, tapered ended (brace bit type drills)drill chuck (can hold round shank drill bits also, but will not hold as tightly as the brace type bits with the tapered square at the end. This one has over 90% of green w/gold highlight paint on the crank wheel, and about 20% of the original black paint on the main frame intact. The rosewood stained handles have a nice finish still intact on both handles. The wear is minor on the handles, they look nice, solid with good metal threads and center shafts. The breast plate can be moved from one locating hole to the other to change the position of the end plate to your liking, can be set at 90 degrees to the position in the pictures. This is a two speed model, so the crank wheel can be moved for the other mounting hole in the frame, for a slower more torque speed than in the picture position. There is a thread, knurled and slotted machine screw that holds the crank wheel in place. All the gears are in very good condition, engage nicely, turn smoothly. This model also has the idler roller feature that is somewhat hidden in the pictures, works just fine to steady the crank wheel. Just behind the chuck is a knurled and threaded, adjustable ball bearing thrust plate for the main spindle in that area, so if you tighten it, the ball bearing are on a tapered plate, this design keeps that spindle running true on center, while allowing clearence for the main spindle. The level sight is in very good condition, good bubble and glass. The chuck has been clean and oiled and is in great shape overall. The breast plate, like the rest of this tool shows some paint wear, but clean and no cracks or damage. A very well made, nice looking tool, by a well known maker!
