View Larger Image   Union Hardware Socket Chisel 7/8 inch Samson   Description: This is a very nice, hard to find antique .87" socket firmer chisel marked "SAMSON UNION HARDWARE COMPANY TORRINGTON CONN. U.S.A.". The steel section of this chisel alone is 10.75" long x .87" width. Union Hardware was a well known quality tool maker, who used the best quality steel and processes in their time. It has a good sharp cutting edge, and good honed surfaces around that same edge. There is no pitting in the cutting edge area, but some noted on the bottom edge about 1/2 or more behind the cutting edge, no rust on it, very clean, very sharp. We do note some minor edge dings here and there, considered minor since none are in the cutting edge area. The socket is good, the handle fits well and is solid, very little wear, with the iron ring cap, not abused, fits perfectly, some minor grain seperations in the wood where the iron ring has been pushed forward into the larger wood in front of it, still very solid however.
