View Larger Image   Starrett Hand Scraper No. 194 Adjustable Swivel Head   Description: This is a very nice, quality made scraper, made by Starrett. It is very similiar to the Stanley No. 283 Scraper, but I think this Starrett is a bit easier to use. It measures 9" long and has a double sided blade with a width of 2 7/8". The blade is new pre-hardened tool steel with squared corners, precision ground, .055" thick x 4.5" long. The original blade must have had the Starrett mark on it as this scraper is not marked, but matches other Starrett scrapers with have that are marked Starrett, most likely a 1950's era tool. This is a fine tool used for scraping insides of cabinets, scraping floors, to removing paint and varnish. It features an easy to adjust forward swivel head that allows blade positioning in several positions. Simply turn the rear handle to loosen the swivel head, position the blade to your liking, then tighten the rear handle, the blade holds in place very firmly. The wing nut on the front is to remove and hold the blade in place. The blade handle is inserted with a steel sleeve and is removeable, and can be placed on the opposite end of the blade, it is press fit onto the blade, holds very well, nice design. The top blade handle is in good working order. The rear handle is in very nice shape along with the rest of the tool, some wear on the stain finish, a short hairline crack noted near the steel furrule, but the furrule is keeping it from cracking further, very sturdy, otherwise looks great, no damage on either wood handles. It has no rust, very nice shape overall. The number 194 is a reference number in the Starrett catalog, it is not marked on this tool.
