View Larger Image   Stanley No 5 Jack Plane Smooth Type 17 WWII   Description: Offering this nice clean Stanley Bailey No 5 Jack Plane Type 17 with smooth bottom, dated 1942-45; blade is marked Stanley, made in USA. The plane is in very good condition with some wear on the original black Japaning, but over 95% still intact; bear metal surfaces good condition, no cracks or chips; clean, some minor pitting noted on the bottom but only in a very small area. The 2 inch wide blade is very clean, ready to work, plenty of length, no cracks or chips; cutter is sharp. The WWII war production planes can easily be spotted as like this one it has the heavier/thicker side walls on the bed, and the wood handle and knob is hardwood with a rosewood stain. The handle and knob are solid and clean; some stain worn off on the tote mostly on one side, smooth, no cracks on either tote or knob. The front knob is in very good shape, solid and clean, minor finish flaws, no cracks or chips. Nickel plating is about 50% intact on the cap cover.
