An original handwritten 1823 tobacco commission receipt / account, measuring approximately 3.75 x 7.75 inches, documenting the sale of three hogsheads of tobacco handled by JOHN H. TYREE, identified in print as a Commission Merchant, for THOMAS BOSWELL.
The receipt details individual hogshead numbers, gross weight, tare, net tobacco weight, pricing per unit, and extended totals in dollars and cents. A settlement notation at lower left reads “1823 Sept 21 – To cash in full”, indicating payment completed. The document is signed “By Saml Tyree” at lower right, likely acting on behalf of John H. Tyree. The reverse contains contemporary pencil arithmetic and tallying typical of active business use.
