Offered here is an original June 16, 1825 document signed by Peter Chardon Brooks (1767–1849), one of the wealthiest men in early America, authorizing his son Gorham Brooks to transfer 200 shares of the Bank of the United States.

About Peter C. Brooks:
A Boston merchant who made his fortune in marine insurance, Brooks became one of the wealthiest Americans of his era. He retired in 1803, devoted himself to philanthropy, and served in both branches of the Massachusetts legislature, the Boston City Council, and the Constitutional Convention of 1820. His family married into prominent American dynasties, including the Adams and Everett families.
