Wonderful original 1892 agricultural advertising broadside announcing the public sale of approximately 20 cocks of “Prime Well-Saved Hay.”
This is a particularly striking piece of 19th-century farming and agricultural advertising, with bold oversized “HAY,” “PUBLIC sale,” and “WELL-SAVED HAY” typography designed to catch attention when originally posted.
The bottom identifies the piece as printed at the “Impartial Reporter” Office, 7 East Bridge Street, Enniskillen, by Wm. Trimble.
The saleeer named on the broadside is Thos. McGovern of Gortmore, Bawnboy, believed to be Thomas McGovern (1851–1904), a farmer and saleeer who later served as Member of Parliament for West Cavan from 1900 until his death in 1904.
Measures approximately 11" × 8 3/4".
A fantastic survivor of late-1800s agricultural history. Its large period typography and genuine aged appearance would look especially good framed as wall décor in a farmhouse, country home, pub, restaurant, office, or collection.
Excellent interest for collectors of antique farming advertising, agricultural memorabilia, Irish ephemera, Victorian advertising, sale history, or 19th-century printed material.
