Item Description:
Offered here is a collection of five original circa 1947 Post Cereals Circus punch-out panels, issued as part of a postwar in-box promotional giveaway. These colorful circus-themed toys were designed as interactive punch-out figures for children and are now prized as nostalgic examples of vintage cereal advertising.
Each panel features bold, vibrant lithography with a circus performer or mechanical toy design. Unless noted below, the punch-out elements remain intact within each panel. All five panels measure approximately 7-3/4\" x 5-7/8\" and are in overall Very Good to Excellent condition, with individual notes as follows:
- Leo – The Trick Lion: Strong color and clean edges. Bottom panel section approximately 50% detached but still connected.
- Cycling Sam – The Bike Rider: Fully intact with bright presentation and crisp die-cuts.
- Tappin’ Tom – The Tap Dancer: Excellent condition with punch-out sections fully intact.
- Twinkletoes – The Dancing Clown: Main figure (body and arms) fully detached but present and clean.
- The Humming Spinwheel: One wheel approximately 50% detached but still attached.
These pieces have survived remarkably well for ephemeral advertising items approaching 80 years in age and display beautifully with strong color and visual appeal.
🏆 On the Series
In the mid- to late 1940s, Post Cereals issued a series of in-box premiums as part of its “Post Cereals Circus” promotion. Designed to capture the imagination of children and build brand loyalty, the series featured colorful punch-out figures representing circus performers and novelty mechanical toys.
Though originally intended as disposable playthings, surviving examples have become increasingly scarce. Today, they are appreciated as artifacts of postwar American advertising, graphic design, and childhood culture. These panels date to the 1947 promotion and may have remained in circulation into the late 1940s, as was common with successful cereal premiums.
📦 Shipping Note
Each panel will be individually packaged in a rigid 8.5\" x 11\" archival plastic holder ($1 value per sleeve) to ensure safe, flat delivery. All items will be packed with collector-grade care.
