- \"MOSELEY & SON, COVT GARDEN, LONDON\" stamped on the toe — William Moseley & Son, one of the top-tier London plane makers, active 1818-1880 at their Covent Garden workshop. Moseley planes are highly sought after by collectors of British woodworking history.
OWNER:
- \"H. STEPHENS\" stamped on the heel — a later Victorian owner who put his own mark on this and the matching skew rebate plane from the same kit.
CONSTRUCTION:
- Beech body, classic London moulding-plane proportions- Decorative round-topped wedge- Boxing strip (wear-resistant insert) screwed into the sole — a quality construction detail signalling this was a premium tool when made- Original cutting iron present and seated, with concave U-shaped cutting edge for producing a convex moulding profile
CONDITION:
Honest used antique condition consistent with age and working life. Iron present, wedge present, boxing strip and all screws intact. Some patina, light scuffs and historic use marks consistent with a working tool. The Moseley toe stamp is clearly readable. Please see all photos for full condition assessment.
