- \"MOSELEY & SONS, LONDON\" stamped in script on the toe — William Moseley & Sons, top-tier London plane maker. The \"& Sons\" version of the mark (later than \"& Son\") suggests c.1880s production, when the family business had multiple sons in the trade. Moseley planes are highly sought by collectors of British woodworking history.
OWNERSHIP:
- \"G. SAUNDERS\" — clearly stamped Victorian owner mark across the plane body- Additional small \"H.H.B.\" sub-stamp visible — possibly an earlier workshop or apprentice mark- Multiple layers of working history
CONSTRUCTION:
- Beech body, approximately 25cm (10 inches) long — standard London moulding-plane proportions- Decorative round-topped wedge- Boxwood insert / wear strip set into the sole — denser hardwood that resists wear better than the beech body, a quality construction detail- Boxing strip with brass/steel screws — premium build feature- Original cutting iron, present and seated
CONDITION:
Honest used antique condition consistent with age and working life. Iron present, wedge present, boxing strip and all screws intact, boxwood insert in place.
