Upon moving to Detroit for business in the early 2000s, wequickly immersed ourselves in the local art community. One of the first peoplewe met was Dr. Cledie Taylor and a brief introduction blossomed into years ofprofound mentoring and friendship. After visiting our home to view ourcollection of African and African-American art, she graciously agreed to curateand appraise a portion of our extensive collection that total more than a 1,000pieces. Dr. Taylor is world-renowned for her vast knowledge across variousmediums, having taught both art and fashion design. She was constantly indemand. Yet, despite her busy schedule, she remained a subtle yet powerfulpillar of Detroit’s art community.
