Description & History
Bulldog Brand started in the late 1970s as a U.S. contract line built in Solingen — most of the good ones at Friedrich Olbertz. Charlie Dorton’s early knives used the fighting-dogs mark and “HAND MADE.” The Parker family later ran the brand. The factory closed the old way of doing things; dated pieces from the 2000s are late Solingen work, not the 1978–1987 first generation.
This one is dated 2007 on the tang. Same fighting-dogs pictorial and HAND MADE stamp collectors look for, plus the four-line hammer-forged Solingen mark. Box copy is the later red “Hammer Forged Steels / Hand Assembled by Master Cutlers” sleeve.
Pattern is the large American trapper: long-pull clip for work and a spey. Stag on these varies knife to knife; this set has dark bark and a clean bar shield. Hammer-forged Solingen steel takes a working edge. Keep it oiled — that is how these were meant to live.
Boxed unused dated Bulldogs are the ones that still move. This is not a numbered 1-of-60 millennium piece and it is not an undated first-gen fighter. It is a complete 2007 stag trapper with the company box.
