Up for sale is a distinctive Lane-era Charatan’s Make Free Hand Relief, pairing a broad, low panel Pot bowl with an elongated shank and a black tapered stem. Smooth panels reveal fine vertical grain, contrasting beautifully with the surrounding sandblast and its warm brown highlights and dark recesses.
Measuring 6.75 inches long and weighing 59 grams, this pipe has an especially wide chamber and a striking, elongated profile. The alternating smooth and textured surfaces add character from every angle.
The underside is stamped “CHARATAN’S MAKE,” “LONDON ENGLAND,” and “Free Hand Relief,” together with the circled L associated with Lane imports. The stem bears the interlocking CP logo. Offered as a Lane-era example without assigning an exact production smoked and restored estate pipe with an attractive polished presentation. The briar shows minor handling marks and wear consistent with age and use. The chamber retains darkening from prior smoking, with some wear and darkening along the inner rim. The black stem has a glossy finish with faint surface marks visible in close-up photographs. Please examine the detailed chamber, rim, and stem photos for condition.

This is a used estate pipe. Although I clean and restore to my own high standards, there will likely be signs of prior use and potential ghosting.
