There\'s a reason serious Danish pipe collectors seek out Poul Winsløw by name — he spent his early career as head assistant under Preben Holm, one of the most important names in Danish pipemaking, before striking out on his own in 1985 to build a reputation entirely his own. This Classical Grade D bent apple is a genuine product of that artisan lineage, hand-shaped and hand-finished, not a factory piece.
This is a substantial, full-handed pipe — heavy in the best way, with real presence and weight that speaks to serious briar and careful hand-shaping. The bent apple bowl carries rich, deeply saturated grain that catches the light beautifully, and the proportions are elegant without losing any of that luxurious, confident heft Winsløw is known for.
The shank is clearly stamped WINSLOW, HANDCUT DENMARK, CLASSICAL, and graded D — Winsløw\'s own lettered hierarchy runs E through A, with D sitting solidly in his hand-graded artisan tier, a clear step above entry production. A genuine sterling silver band (hallmarked 925 S) sits at the shank, adding real material value beyond the briar and craftsmanship alone. The stem carries a pair of small metal inlays — positioned in a way that suggests they may serve a functional purpose rather than purely decorative accents — along with a 9mm filter insert, giving the next owner flexibility between a filtered or open-bore smoke.
A small tooth scratch is present on the stem, visible on close inspection — a minor cosmetic note on an otherwise exceptional estate example, disclosed here for full transparency.
