A single handwritten page in Ladino (Judeo-Spanish), dated Constantinople, December 8, 1938, addressed to \"Kerida Sarah\" and signed \"F. Kriegey.\" The writer opens by apologizing for not having replied sooner to Sarah\'s very kind postcard announcing her arrival in Ankara — thanking her for the thoughtful gesture and hoping she is now rested in a good boarding house. She excuses her delay: she is always occupied with her daughters, currently staying at Rachel\'s — sometimes with one daughter, sometimes with another — and has found no rest. Regarding \"dear (haro) Joseph,\" she writes, she still has no letter from him — she can imagine this makes her anxious, but for all things patience is needed. She closes warmly: \"Rachel, Marguerite, Mary send you kisses. The Varington family sends greetings. And I, dear Sarah, press you affectionately — F. Kriegey.\"

Like many Jewish families in Galata, the Savaryegos would have been descendants of the Sephardic Jews who arrived from Spain and Portugal after 1492. In the 1940s, professional Jews — doctors, merchants, artisans — built their lives in Galata, a neighborhood with many synagogues.
