WHAT THIS TOOL IS
Hakoya tsuchi (箱屋槌) means \"box maker\'s hammer\": a square striking face on one end and a split claw for pulling nails on the other. This one weighs 256g with the handle.
THE WORK I DID
I am a retired furniture maker. For 45 years I worked by hand here in Japan. I have tightened the head on the handle before selling it. Photo 3 shows the top of the eye with the wedge.
THE MARK
I have not found a maker\'s mark I can read, so I list it without a name.
CONDITION
Head: dark with age. The striking face is mottled - photos 2 and 4 show it.
Handle: Japanese white oak.
Head on handle: re-tightened.
Maker\'s mark: none I can read.
