A large part of eastern Poland was combined/annexed to the Soviet Union after the war, and Poland itself was under heavy communist influence from the Soviets. These yearswere marred by earlyStalinistrepressions, social unrest, political strife and severe economic difficulties. One result was Poland being cut off from world markets.
After WWII, some glass workshops began producing as early as 1945 but were subject to Communist economic regulations along with religious restrictions. These controlled numbers of workers, imports and exports, and celebrations of religious holidays meant few or no Christmas ornaments.Just as in Germany, the artistic hand-blown and decorated Christmas ornament trade was devastated.
The Revolutions of 1989 and the end of Polish Communism began a resurgence of a free-market economy and the growth of workshops that struggled throughout the previous five decades. This free-market economy also generated the establishment of more small workshops.
THE PHOTOS ABOVE SHOW SEVERAL ORNAMENTS, ALL WITH SIMILAR CAPS (The first photos are of the 1930\'s Shiny Brite ornament, all others following appear Polish). A couple of the caps can be read (Poland) while the others are age-stained and difficult to read, but of the same design and all from the same small collection. Fortunately, while the caps show age, the ornaments themselves (please review the photos) show tremendous care and have retained much of their original color and beauty.
Given the history noted above, it seems highly likely that these Polish ornaments are pre-WWII, especially given that one American ornament found among the collection (also for sale in this lot) has a cap that says, \"Made in USA\" with no \"Shiny Brite\" on the cap, which indicates a pre-war late 1930\'s Shiny Brite ornament.
These Polich ornaments are glass, very light, appear hand-painted, may be artisan hand-blown, and are in pretty remarkable condition with not a lot of paint loss. Stunning given the estimated age of between 80-90 years old.
I\'m not an ornament collector, just recently purchased some vintage ornaments out of curiosity (and admiration for their beauty) and did some homework to learn more. I\'ve set a price on these and am open to offers, including offers of knowledge/information.
