Prehistoric Southwest Polychrome Pottery Bowl - 1970s Estate Collection.
Up for sale is a beautiful prehistoric polychrome clay bowl, featuring striking, bold geometric patterns painted in traditional red, cream and black mineral pigments. The interior basin shows an intricate circular layout characteristic of prehistoric Puebloan/Salado traditions (such as Gila or Fourmile Polychrome) native to Arizona and New Mexico.
Provenance:This piece was in my Grandparent's collection. They travelled to the Southwest frequently with my parents in the 1970's. They all collected Pre-Columbian.
Condition Report:Structural Integrity: Strong, solid and completely intact. No crack, breaks or repairs. The bottom of the bowl in concave on the underside, making a nice small dome shape in the interior bottom.
Wear: Displays wonderful ancient surface patina and natural earthen wear.
Flaws: There are two small, historic chips along the top rim edge (visible in photos).
Markings: The bottom and back are entirely clean and free of markings.
Dimensions:The bowl is 5 1/2 inches in diameter, and stands around 1 3/4 inches tall.
