Vollrath Manufacturing, based in Wisconsin, produced high-quality cast iron cookware in the early-to-mid 20th century. Their skillets, Dutch ovens, and griddles are known for their exceptionally smooth cooking surfaces, unique curved handles, and flat bottoms (instead of heat rings). Lighter than some competitors, Vollrath cast iron is prized for its easy handling and excellent heat retention. Collectors value these pieces, especially those made between the 1930s–1950s, as they are less common than Griswold or Wagner but equally well-crafted.
Why Use Antique Cast Iron?
Antique cast iron cookware is often preferred over modern pieces because it has a smoother cooking surface, making it more non-stick once seasoned. It’s typically lighter and more finely crafted, with greater durability and historical value. Vintage cast iron also offers the benefit of sustainability, as it repurposes high-quality cookware that improves with use, making it both a functional and collectible item.
