DESCRIPTIONThis 8x10 photograph comes from the Aitken Collection, a single owner archive of official McDonnell Douglas Corporation (MDC) photo library reprints produced at the company\'s St. Louis, Missouri facility and mailed to collector Donald Aitken of Irvine, California in 1979. This print was pulled from an original company negative and reproduced as a company archival print rather than a period contemporary press pull, and it is offered and priced as a 1979 archival reprint, not an original 1930s photograph.The aircraft is a Monocoupe 90A, construction number A-702, registered NC11774 to owner Elsworth Sipes according to the U.S. civil aircraft register. The Monocoupe 90A was introduced in 1930 by the Monocoupe Corporation of Moline, Illinois, a side by side two seat cabin monoplane of welded steel tube and wood construction under fabric covering, most commonly fitted with a 90 horsepower Lambert radial engine. The Monocoupe name is best known today for the company\'s later 110 Special, one of the winningest closed course racers of the Golden Age of air racing, and this 90A shares the same lineage and general lines even though it was built as a civilian sport and training model rather than a race plane.
